We celebrate 15^th September as the Engineer’s day , it is the date of birth of Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya popularly known as the Civil Engineer of India, was announce by the Govt. 1868. Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was the first Civil Engineer of India.

India had a very rich cultural heritage of grate architecture and civil engineering since the Vedic era. It was a known fact that the British were very good Civil Engineers and they realize the true potential of the Indians as Engineers, and they took  many proactive measures for the development of the modern engineering education in India. 

The first engineering education  was started at Madras as a survey school in 1794, and the first Engineering college “Thomason College of Civil Engineering”, came into being at 1847, it is currently known as the IIT Roorkee.
